Premiere: Otiuh & Cruz Patterson - 72 Hours

Check out the dope heavyweight hip hop collaboration between some local dons of the scene

What do you get when you combine some of Perth’s finest lyricists, a dope beat and lyrics exploring simulation theory inspired by GTA V? You get the awesome 72 Hours courtesy of Otiuh and Cruz Patterson, premiering exclusively on Pilerats today ahead of its release Friday.

Cruz has been holding it down in Fremantle as one of WA’s finest MCs for quite some time now, making a name for himself with the legendary Koi Child, before stepping out in solo mode as well as one half of duo Kissinger Kruz, releasing a some seriously dope solo tunes over the last 12 months.

Otiuh are no longer newcomers either, having been performing and releasing beats and rhymes for half a decade now, with 2021 being one of their biggest to date - dropping their acclaimed The Bandit & The Meditator EP, nominated for the WAM Hip Hop Act of 2021 award and getting recognition country wide.

With this in mind, the time couldn’t be better for this collab… and it does not disappoint! An off-the-wall trap style beat packing huge bassy kicks, soaring synths and all manner of interesting percussion lays the foundation for these talented MCs to flex, with Cruz delivering his signature, rapid-fire, tongue twisting bars and Otiuh laying it down in their smooth style, hooks and all.

Of the track, Cesare Papa from Otiuh elaborates “72 Hours is a rap odyssey. Heavily laden with wordplay and themes from GTA V. Playing with the idea of whether we’re in the simulation… what is the difference between a video game and reality? What if you’re playing for so long the game becomes your reality?

These kinds of questions came together when the three of us were in the same room recording which made for a fun process and was accentuated by the production, we loved the idea of spooky production, playful beat breaks and back-and-forth verses.”

We can only hope this is the start of a full collaborative mixtape…!

72 Hours is out Friday, March 25 via Ssame Records
