Exclusive: Stream Chymes' lush debut EP, Grow

Four tracks of delicate production and stellar vocal work.

Chymes are a NSW-based electronic duo who we've featured a couple of times in our weekly Monday chiller list, and so it feels quite fitting that we get to share with you their new EP, Grow, a day before it is released on Tuesday 14 June. Containing four luscious, moody electronic tracks featuring delicate production mixed to perfect with gentle, at times haunting vocal work, it's an exciting first step for the twosome. Take a listen below, along with a few questions to help get to know 'em a little better:

Grab/pre-order their EP from iTUNES NOW.

Tell us about about yourselves:

We are just a boy and a girl who enjoy our fair share of music.

What kinda tunes we talkin’?

We create electronic music with (somewhat) folk undertones, ambient sounds, and some universal lyric concepts thrown in.

Production/writing process:

Each song gets written differently. Sometimes the production comes first, maybe a beat or some chords and then the melodic ideas on top. Other times we start off with a vocal phrase and build the idea around that.

What do you do outside of Chymes?

When we are both not working our casual retail jobs (got to fund our taste in music equipment somehow!) Cameron is a producer so he works on other artists' music and Kiersten spends her free time songwriting or on the Internet haha. Mostly we watch anime!

Any shows coming up?

We had our first ever gig at Oxford Art Factory on June 10th and now have a residency gig for every Wednesday of July at The White Horse in Surry Hills, Sydney.

And releases?

Our debut EP, Grow, is released June 14!

What's the rest of the year have in store?

The rest of the year may include a sneaky second EP, heaps more gigs and anything else we can conjure up!

Where can we hear more of your music?

You can hear our EP and future releases on our SOUNDCLOUD and ITUNES, and follow us on FACEBOOK.
