Premiere: Elli Schoen shares delicate, slow burning new single, Shark

She's just about to hit the road with Asha Jefferies for an east coast run of shows.

With her national co-headline tour with Asha Jefferies kicking off this week, we are excited to premiere Elli Schoen's wonderful new single Shark. A emotive slow-burner that rumbles through at a luxurious almost-five minutes, it's "about when you lose yourself in someone, and you didn’t even realise until its over,” says Schoen.

It didn't reach its final form easily however, with Schoen revealing it went through several iterations before arriving at the stripped back beauty you're about to lay your ears on. Produced by Dave Parkin, Schoen says, "The recording process was really hard. I went in there with a full band, and kept trying to change my sound – I thought I had to sound bigger and better than my last songs... After a while, I realised it was the complete opposite. I had to come from a place of being totally pure and stripped-back for the song to really shine."

And after drifting away with the final product, we have to wholeheartedly agree. It comes after ripper start to the year that saw her win the triple j Unearthed comp to play Falls Festival over here, along with supporting Ocean Alley and Ben Folds, before the recent announcement of her co-headline national tour with Brisbane's Asha Jefferies. So take a listen below, and check that full run of dates down the bottom, which also include the Shark launch show on Saturday 16 June at The Bird.
