JPEGMafia is a name you all should be familiar with. Since breaking out with his 2018 debut album Veteran, the LA-based, NY-born rapper has blossomed into one of rap music's most enticing, left-field and just damn exciting acts there is, capturing the light-hearted mania of hip-hop just as much as he focuses on the political and socio-economical hardships particularly in Trump's America. Take Veteran for example, named as a nod to his time in the air-force where he served for four years in Iraq before being discharged and moving to Baltimore, which places song titles like DJ Snitch Bitch Interlude and I Cannot Fucking Wait Til Morrissey Dies side-by-side with rich lyrical symbolism and some of the year's most forward-thinking productions.

In the time since, JPEGMafia has only become more of a heavyweight, and his Australian arrival is soon to occur. He's just popped up with Flume on his returning mixtape Hi This Is Flume - his laughing and humour-driven verses the perfect accompaniment to Flume's crashing bass kicks - and will even play on the same lineup as him when he makes his Australian debut, performing at Listen Out Festival later this year in one of the year's smartest bookings. His new single Jesus Forgive Me, I Am A Thot doubles-down on his light-heartness while maintaining his knack for experimentation and thinking out of the box, albeit taking more of a minimalist approach when compared to the thickly-layered Flume collaboration How To Build A Relationship.

However, if you think the best part of Jesus Forgive Me, I Am A Thot is its song title, let JPEGMafia explain the track's video: "It's nice to have something out that's more me. I hiked five fucking hours for this fucking shoot. Five. Fucking hours. If anybody doesn't like it then fuck you. I hiked five hours. I don't care. It's beautiful, it's elegant, and it doesn't have to force you into keeping your attention. I just wanted something that was able to be suspenseful without forcing it. This video is just me existing. I wanted you to be moved by what's going on. And if not, then fuck you. I hiked five hours."
