Premiere: Lazerbeak - Rockers/Slumps

Take an advance listen to two new vibe-filled instrumental cuts from veteran producer whose credits include Lizzo, Doja Cat and Banks

Hailing from Minneapolis, producer, singer and musician Aaron Mader AKA Lazerbeak has been crafting unique, genre-fusing hip-hop rooted beats for over two decades now, winning fans worldwide with his high energy, maximalist productions that draw on all manner of dance music and r&b influences.

Accomplished as both a solo producer and crafting beats for vocalists, Lazerbeak got his start in the Minneapolis scene producing for underground vocalists like Dessa and Sims as part of the influential Doomtree collective. Spreading his wings since then, Mader went on to produce Lizzo’s breakthrough, debut album, Lizzobangers, in 2013, while more recently took his hand to Doja Cat’s Streets for an official remix.

Some of the beats from Lizzobangers were lifted from Lazerbreak’s 2012 album Lava Bangers, and rightly so, being a release that showcased Mader’s productions and range as a producer. Now, ten years later, he has prepared Lava Bangers II, out this November via Doomtree Records, with the double singles Rockers and Slump out October 4, but premiering on Pilerats today!

Rockers is an upper tempo jaunt packing horn stabs and shimmering synths across footwork-esque style percussion, while Slumps slows things down, taking a more experimental and atmospheric approach to its downtempo, hypnotic beats. The result is a complementary pair of tracks that give a great taste of the varied sounds to expect from Lava Bangers II.
