Premiere: The Dandys - Smile More

After just being added to the 2023 Splendour lineup, Brisbane/Meanjin trio ready their new anthemic single

Fusing alt-rock and punk with catchy pop sensibilities are The Dandys, who continue their rise with new single Smile More, out June 2 but premiering on Pilerats today!

An attention grabbing anthem, Smile More sees the group tackle misogyny and sexual assault head-on, with vocalist Mads Protheroe exploring an emotional narrative while “expressing the frustration, discomfort, and resilience that come with surviving such traumatic experiences.”

Mads explains “‘Smile More’ is a song that explores the physical and emotional responses to sexual assault, as well as the lasting impact of these experiences. It’s about shedding light on the uncomfortable reality of feeling unsafe and the toxic expectations placed on women and female-presenting individuals. Through this song, we aim to empower everyone to stand up against such behaviour and reclaim their power.”

Smile More marks the next step for the band who generated a buzz with a few singles last year, with The Dandys having already done an Australian tour supporting Hope D and Asha Jefferies, as well as supporting the likes of The Grogans, Peach Fur and The Dreggs, with their live show reputation having secured them a slot at Splendour In The Grass this year.
