Premiere: Sixth Avenue - Sometimes I Get High, And Think About You

From the northern suburbs of Boorloo/ Perth hails indie-punk outfit Sixth Avenue, a four-piece group releasing their first track for 2022 titled Sometimes I Get High, And Think About You. Making their debut in 2020 with a 5-track EP So Temperamental, the group have been gigging throughout the local scene, recently appearing at Sidequest’s Side Fest alongside the likes of Sly Withers, Teenage Joans and Towns. 

Starting with rhythmic strums from an electric guitar, Sometimes I Get High, And Think About You grows from a delicate indie-rock track into a heavier all-out alt-rock come punk anthem with catchy sing-along qualities as the outro rolls into a chant-like repetition of “just a second of your time to hold onto” . Coming in at two minutes and fifty-seven seconds the release see’s Sixth Avenue entering a new era, stepping up production quality, working with engineer Matthew Templeman (Birds of Tokyo, Sly Withers), and lyrically writing their most heart-on-sleeve tune to date. “This song has a special place for us and particularly myself, essentially it’s just me having a ramble about how much of a loser I can be”, lead singer Joel Bellesini says. “The verses are a lyrical depiction of trying to deal with one’s own self-doubt, which feels ironic to be putting it in a song for public release but all the while like a necessary process”.

Set to launch the track next month at Lynott's Lounge in Northbridge, alongside the release of a music video filmed by James Kilian (Shangrila, Idle Eyes), be sure to get across Sixth Avenue and their latest single Sometimes I Get High, And Think About You as we premiere it today before it’s official release this Friday.
