We've fallen head over heels for Hatchie over the past twelve months, and it all takes is a few seconds of her debut single Try for you to figure out why. It's a dreamy, shoegaze-pop haze of washed-out vocals and soft guitar melodies, the combination of which creating utter magic that has seen her become one of Australia's most exciting names. She's been dubbed one of the next big things by Pitchfork (who named Try's follow-up single, Sure, one of the best songs of 2018 so far), played a host of festivals and sold-out shows already, and no doubt will continue to strive as she marches towards the release of her debut EP this year.
Following on from Try and Sure – an oozy masterpiece of a second single which established the Brisbane name as one to keep an eye on – comes Sugar & Spice, the third single from her upcoming debut EP of the same name – out May 25. Sugar & Spice is another washed-out pop anthem, reminding us why we fell in love with Hatchie and her foggy melodies in the first place. "The songs on Sugar & Spice were all written without much thought or pressure from myself or anyone else, allowing me to lay my feelings out like I’ve never done before, she explains on her debut EP, which will arrive ahead of a load of tour dates across Winter (full list below). "They were written more for myself than for a specific project, in an effort to explore feelings of vulnerability and ecstasy I had previously suppressed. I wanted these songs to sound lush, sparkly, and recreate euphoric feelings I experienced falling in love for the first time."
