MUKI is one step ahead of the rest with Gold Oxygen

MUKI is one step ahead of the rest with Gold Oxygen

Her third single so far comes with the announcement of her debut headline tour.

In just two singles, Sydney's MUKI has gone from someone basically unknown to one of Australia's most exciting and forward-thinking acts. Her surprisingly popular debut Sassaparilla caught the eyes of bubblegum pop and PC Music fans everywhere, which when followed up with the equally bubbly and exciting Friends Don't Make Out, saw her net publishing and booking deals, play a bunch of big shows, support names like Paces and Client Liaison, and generally set herself as one to watch by basically everyone with their figure on the pulse (cough us cough).

As someone who caught a MUKI set last year let me tell you this - MUKI is sitting on some of the most exciting and forward-thinking pop music in not just Australia, but the world. Each track was just as energetic, experimental, and all-around incredible as the last, mirroring acts such as Kota Banks and Charli XCX with her unapologetically bold and left-field bangers and dynamic stage presence - choreographed dance routines and all. In other words, she's got that thing which makes you go "okay, this is the future", which is actually so exciting considering it's coming from such a bright Australian artist so early in her career.

Anyway, her new single Gold Oxygen is a little taste as what's to come from MUKI in 2018. It's saccharine sweet with a hint of unmerciful grittiness, combining her captivating vocals with a clanging production that is full of chiming samples and relentless, bassy breakdowns that somehow perfectly fit in with Gold Oxygen's cute-and-innocent vibe, despite it being such a stretch. "Gold Oxygen is an anthem for 'blocking the haters’," she says on the single. "It is about believing in yourself and drowning out other people’s negativity by being your own supporter. It is about having the attitude that if people don’t accept you or support you then they aren’t worth your energy. Ultimately it is about having the courage to do YOU despite the opinion of others."

Through acts like Muki, the future of Australian pop/electronic is more exciting, experimental and brave than ever. All you have to do is hop on board and try to keep up.
