Listen: Delivery Buoy - Story Time
Weaving narratives into intricate beats and lushly layered synths, this Boorloo-based artist introduces us to his conceptual project with his latest single.
Boorloo/ Perth based artist Delivery Buoy opens a new chapter this year, as he embeds narratives into musical instrumentation and artistic identity with the release of the new single Story Time. With a diverse catalogue that ranges from electronica, ambient, and broken jazz, to experimental and neo-classical influence, his ear for groove, rhythm, and rich instrumentation has seen 2018’s LP breath slow think quite and previous singles Tree Keeping and Exercise receive support and love from the local community. Joining nu jazz-electronic favorites Grievous Bodily Calm last year, Delivery Buoy aka Thom Emery has experimented with new equipment, and collaborated with other artists to truly and quietly hone his craft. The result, a sonically captivating and purposefully executed expression seen in Story Time.
Influenced by artists such as Floating Points, Nala Sinephro, and Bonobo, Story Time has a meditative and uplifting quality that is conveyed through intricate percussion and warm swirls of synth layers. The single marks the beginning of a new conceptual project, conveyed through sound and soon to come visual animations. On the project Delivery Buoy shares “The last known member of the ‘Courier’ - an ancient species thought to be extinct for millenia - lies dormant on their homeworld. One momentous morning they are awoken by the arrival of a sentient buoy, on a mission to recover the whereabouts of a series of mythical synthesisers scattered throughout the known universe - legendary instruments with a sole purpose of being played, amplified by the surrounding stars.”
