Crooked Colours return: "We’ve just been trying to write a fkn album that we don’t hate tbh."
We caught up with the trio as they release the LP's first single, Flow.
Old mates Crooked Colours have returned after a year-and-a-half in the wilderness. The formerly WA-based trio have been busy, moving states, and, as it turns out, working on their debut album. With the release of its first single, Flow, today, we caught up with to find out just what the heck's been going on, and what's in store for 2017:
Welcome back mates, what the hell’s been happening over the past 18 months?
Thank you. It’s good to be back! We’ve just been trying to write a fuckin' album that we don’t hate to be honest.
Where’s everyone living these days?
Doing the Sydney/Melbourne combo at the moment. Phil and Leon are in Sydney while Lampy is in Melbourne. Makes rehearsals/getting on the tins kinda tough, but we manage.
Flow is a great comeback single, can you tell us a bit about it?
It’s basically a song about upheaval and uncertainty, but through dealing with it, finding a strength about yourself you didn’t realise you had. It was the first song off the album that we felt was complete enough to be a single and was also the song that we felt will give the most honest sense of the direction of the record.
About that record?
It's going well. Half the reason we’ve had such a long time between drinks was that we really didn’t want to rush the record. We had to make something that we new we would still be proud of years down the track and we feel that we achieved that. We don’t really know how to best describe it, but there are a lot pf plucky, jangley, textural vibes.
You guys getting back into live shows again, where can we see you first?
Jumping back on tour ASAP! We have a couple of our own shows to start things off at Newtown Social on the 10th March and Northcoate Social on the 17th. After that we’re jumping on the Hot Dub Wine Machine juggernaut which should be mental.
