Premiere: Perth rockers Pretty Uglys share the clip to their latest single, Your Shade

The single arrives ahead of a launch show in mid-September, featuring some v-tasty special guests.

Pretty Uglys are a band that we can't get enough of in 2021. The Busselton-raised, Perth-based outfit have been steadily building themselves an audience ever since their debut back in 2018, whether it be through recording - releases such as their first EP, Beach For Free, welcoming an introduction to the trio - or on the live stage, supporting acts including Ruby Fields, Pist Idiots, Spacey Jane and Sly Withers.

In the last year, however, the group have really gone above and beyond. Every move they've made has felt like them getting a leg-up on the rest of West Australia's surf-rock world, with a series of releases (singles Soak It Up and Dreamland Delusion last year; their Party Friends EP back in April this year) edging out new textures and flavours from the band and solidifying their prowess in this rough-around-the-edges rock/punk universe - something that comes to life through the charm and personality they inject into every song they release.

Likewise, it's something that shines on Your Shade, which arrived last Friday as the first taste of new Pretty Uglys material since the arrival of Party Friends a few months back. "Your Shade is written around the topic of not letting other people's negativity get you down, which you can be faced with in everyday places whether that be out somewhere or at work," the band say on the single. "'Your Shade won’t be finding me, not today there’s no way' directly relates to this. It’s also currently the shortest track we have written and is one of the most fun to play live."

Today, however, we gather to premiere the official video clip for Your Shade, which digs into the high-energy rush of the single's sonics and translates it into a fun video clip filmed/edited by Mitch Love and Erin Guy. The video clip was filmed at the familiar haunt of Scarborough's El Grotto (and surrounds), with the group taking the centre stage for the video as they create this boozy, party-ready atmosphere that gets everyone involved (even one of their members who broke their leg the week before they were scheduled to film).

"We filmed the clip in Scarborough at the local watering hole El Grotto and on the footpath out front," the group say on the video clip. "Jaxon conveniently broke his leg a week prior hence the crutches getting a feature, a whole bunch of our friends came down for a couple of early morning pints and we had the clip done in a couple of hours. Such a fun vid with our mates."

The video clip to Your Shade highlights the charm and energy of Pretty Uglys, as they continue to rise through the ranks as newcoming West Australian favourites. It's something sure to be further solidified as they launch the song with a show on September 11th, when they'll take over Jack Rabbit Slim's with some other high-risers in Ra Ra Viper, Flower Fiction and Spici Water. Grab more information and tickets to that show here, and take a dive into the video clip below as it premieres on Pilerats today:
