Get to know NYC's Navy Gangs, who just dropped a hazy new single in 1Alone
Their debut album Poach is due August 3 via Dinosaur City Records in Australia.
Brooklyn-based five-piece Navy Gangs are marching swiftly towards the release of their debut album Poach, out August 3 via Oz label Dinsosaur City Records and USA's Modern Sky. And to mark that impending drop they've just announced a huge run of US shows by releasing opening track 1Alone, a hazy piece of fuzzy garage-pop, with a weirdly uplifting vocal melody that definitely works its way deep into the brain.
Take a listen below, and get to know the group a little better too:
Tell us about yourselves?
We are a batch of crooners that live in the upper eastern coast of America. All of us come various forms of discipline. Some of us grew up together, some of us knew each other from past lives, some of us have been alive forever, and some of us are not from this planet.
What kinda tunes we talkin’?
We talkin' tunes bud. Lazy guitar hook, Entwistle-ian thumpy bass romps, suckers for pop sweetness, suckers for dissonance, rockin' in the free world. Ain't free tho, just livin'.
Production/writing process:
Tillwick comes in with an idea, we workshop it until it sounds nice and gooey, and then we just jam it until we get it. Simple muscle memory stuff.
Can you tell us about your new single, 1Alone?
Matt wrote it in his first apartment in NYC. Apartment 1A. It's about FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and how to embrace the feeling of being alone.
Any shows coming up?
We are going on a month long US tour starting May 31st.
What’s the rest of the year have in store?
We have some shows in New York in July, a record release on August 3 via Modern Sky in the USA and Dinosaur City in OZ. Speaking of which, we are hoping to come out there and play some gigs in our fall. Maybe get out to China and Japan as well!
Where can we hear more of your music?
