Listen: You Beauty - ILLYWHACKA

Listen: You Beauty - ILLYWHACKA

Idiosyncratic lo-fi garage from Wollongong’s finest, You Beauty.

With all the buzz about Wollongong in the last year; Hockey Dad, Farmer & The Owl etc., their festivals and a general realisation that Sydney isn’t the only place music is made in NSW it seems a high time to unearth some other gems of the south coast. Most notably You Beauty, signed to Rice Is Nice, who kicked goals literally with their conceptual album about the rise and fall of a NRL player. A Borderline tongue-in-cheek vibe saw You Beauty nabbing the indie-rock elements of The Strokes alongside slacker-rock elements of Mac Demarco. Overall You Beauty peaks when those sonic moments coalesce into what could be described as cream-pop. And ILLYWHACKA rolls with the slacker vibes but also almost slides into wall of sounds hinting at a more abrasive sounding song. On ya’ You Beauty ya little ripper.
