Listen: Beach House - Sparks

Beach House head in a new sonic direction on Sparks.

Lo-fi and atmospheric aren’t often used to describe a track but Beach Houses’s first offering Sparks from their third album Depression Cherry is the essence of the track. Sparks is lo-fi in the sense of its instruments; the drawn out organ sounds and low buzzing guitars, but what makes them intriguing is unlike garage rock’s use of lo-fi Beach House have used them to make a warm, encompassing track. This warmth is only heightened by the vocals that seemingly hover above the thicker reverb elements of the track. It isn’t exactly typical ‘first single’ material but it’s a fascinating soundscape to immerse yourself in to prepare for one of the year's most anticipated albums.
