Ahead of their new album Feel Good (out June 9), Australia’s Women of Soul collective have readied not one but two uplifting and melodic cuts of modern soul, with Lifeline featuring Rita Satch and I Am Enough featuring Candice Monique premiering on Pilerats today!
With these singles giving a taste of what to expect on the album, Feel Good features more than 25 creatives with contributions from Kylie Auldist, Stella Angelico, Thndo, Maria Moles, Monique diMattina, Vanessa Perica, Kathleen Halloran, Tamara Murphy and many more. On the production side of things, Chelsea Wilson executive produced and Anna Laverty was producer and engineer, rounding out an entirely female composed, recorded and produced record.
Lifeline is an epic & cinematic cut of soulful pop, featuring sweeping strings and Rita Satch’s stunning & evocative vocals, with the track co-written by Satch, Miss Emilia, Chelsea Wilson and Allzy during the Women of Soul songwriting intensive that saw 30 artists working on new music.
On Lifeline, Allzy says “I see this song as an anthem for anyone who feels like they’re caught in the storms of life. It’s a song about the power found in the choice to fight and to hold on to hope, no matter what obstacles lie ahead. Finding your ‘lifeline’ means finding the perseverance, resilience, and strength to push through and overcome the challenges you face. It all starts inside - you can feel like you’re sinking and surrounded by rising waves, but when you choose to keep fighting, it means that triumph is still possible.”
Meanwhile, I Am Enough shakes things up with its neo-soul, hip-hop and r&b flavours that sees Candice Monique showcase her range from striking singing to rapid rhymes. Monique explains “The song is essentially about realization of self-love and self-acceptance, overcoming the pressures society puts on us to look/be/act a certain way, especially when it comes to body image, and allowing ourselves to just be amazing .. it’s about throwing all the self-criticism away and embracing our own unique brilliance”
