Following a judging process carried out by 126 industry representatives, the winners of the 2022 WAM Song of the Year Awards were announced at a ceremony held at Freo.Social in Fremantle last night. Hosted by RTRFM queen Taylah Strano, and radio and TV personality Blake Williams, the night also featured performances from nominees including Natasha Eldridge, Siobhan Cotchin and Geraldton’s RATSALAD (who went on to take out the Punk/Hardcore category).
The big winner on the night was regional artist Dr Tasty, an emerging rapper whose winning track Hospcotch was featured on WAM’s recent regional compilation Demos From Esperance and now the 2022 grand prize winner. Former grand prize winner Carla Geneve scored the runner-up slot with Dog Eared, while pop outfit South Summit took out the second runner-up position.
