Untitled 07 | Levitate - Kendrick Lamar
The arguable highlight of the eight track Untitled Unmastered which Kendrick Duckworth Lamar released earlier this year was, later, re-released as the album’s lead single, and is Kendrick at his most turnt up. Plus, the album edition finds some production from the five year old son of master producer Swizz Beatz, which is soul-crushing because I’m supposed to be the adult. Hehhhhhh…
Pick Up The Phone - Young Thug & Travi$ Scott (ft. Quavo)
Do you dream of dancing naked on Trinidadian beaches whilst you’re being personally served fruity cocktails of your choosing? Can we make Calypso Trap an official new music sub-genre? Young Thug and Travi$ Scott have a history of tremendous collaborations, some of the strongest works for both hugely talented artists, and this link up with Quavo from Migos is no exception. More like it’s exceptional. See what I did there?
Dance On Me - Mr. Carmack Remix - Goldlink
GoldLink recently released a remixed edition of 2015 album And After That, We Didn’t Talk and happened to drop this particularly tasty slice with the help of the talented producer Mr. Carmack. The duo combine together to create a turn up anthem that would be so perfect as the soundtrack to throwing a frisbee to your friend whilst the pair of you both ride atop a frantic crowd losing their own wee minds to the crisp sound of GoldLink’s volcanic flow.
No English - Juicy J (ft. Travi$ Scott)
Hot off the press with the freshness, Juicy J and Travi$ Scott collide for this brand new fire single, an appropriately turned up addition to any evening. Anything Travi$ Scott puts his hands to can be expected to be fire to some extent, and this track with former Three Six Mafia member Juicy J is no different. It's the tune you turn all the way up when you've partied so hard that you've forgotten how to speak English, but you still look fly with your fresh kicks and you're ready to lay back and let the night unfold.
Champions - Kanye West, Travi$ Scott, Desiigner, Yo Gotti, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Big Sean
Did I forget anybody? The first single from the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music monster album Cruel Winter is hyped. With Travi$ Scott covering the hook, Kanye West pushing the ‘Ye Button’ and Desiigner offering the mouth machine gun he peppered throughout his hit Panda single, Champions is an insane posse cut perfect to cause chaos on the dance-floors. Leave it to Big Sean to summarise this song better than any music journalist ever could; “this right here the fucking anthem!”
I Spy - Skepta
Skepta pops up on a turn up list again with an old classic from his 2007 debut studio album Greatest Hits. Yes, Skepta named his debut album Greatest Hits, because he's reckless, fam. If that alone doesn’t endear Skepta to you, perhaps nothing ever will. But he murders this beat, fam. Let’s get weird.
Laundry - Asher Roth (ft. Michael Christmas & Larry June)
If it's a Friday night and you're looking to get really crazy, really wild and weird, you're looking for a song about laundry and clean underwear. This bass-heavy masterwork from Asher Roth has you covered, tumble-drying your evening and heating it right up. Sometimes in life, you never know what you need until you have it. Hashtag deep.
**SPECIAL MENTION** I Love College - Asher Roth
Let's throw back to where Asher Roth first began, and what is still his most popular song - a jam crafted with the party in mind, about the party. If you don't know the words, learn the words. If you know the words, sing them loud. Do all of the above whilst partying so hard that you eventually lose the power to even use any words in your vocabulary except “that party last night was awfully crazy, I wish we taped it…”
