Take a peep into the future with CLYPSO and Kwame's Middle Ground

Two of our favourite acts in Australia right now join forces, and the results are nothing less than brilliant.

We're all about music discovery here, especially when it comes to Australian artists. CLYPSO and Kwame are two of our absolute favourites right now, the former landing herself on our 'ones to watch in 2018' list with her ravey, tropical-tinged debut single YOLO and its more subtle, emotion-driven follow-up Save Me, while the latter burst out of the gates at the start of this year with WOW, which is genuinely one of the funnest Australian hip-hop singles to arrive in recent memory. Middle Ground excitingly sees the two rising stars combine forces with absolutely brilliant results, bringing both sides of the collaborators into one tidy little package. Middle Ground has that effortlessly cool, summery sound of CLYPSO in focus, with her vocals taking centre stage above a tropical, afropunk-infused beat that is as refreshing as ever. Kwame comes in with his own flavour in the midst of this tropical wash of energy, restating his presence as one of Australia's most exciting hip-hop names with his short yet sweet guest verse.

In a time when music feels particularly oversaturating (probably due to the immense amount of music we're thrown every day by streaming platforms - which is a whole other feature), Middle Ground reminds us of cream of the Australian crop when it comes to music, with both CLYPSO and Kwame gearing up to be big names by the year's end. "I never thought I'd write a love song, but I like how the cruisey Caribbean feel juxtaposes with the relationship drama that the lyrics convey," says CLYPSO on the single, before directing some love to her guest feature star, Kwame. "While making the track I came up with a funky instrumental in the middle and I imagined an Andre 3000 style verse that would go frenetically with the hi-hats. I knew there was only one person I wanted to feature on it and asked Kwame."
