Nearly two years on from the breakout success of their debut album Deity, modern r&b and future soul singer songwriter Emma Volard is back in deep and groovy fashion with new single Shinin’, out April 19 but premiering on Pilerats today.

Taking things in a breakbeat infused deep house influenced direction, Shinin’ opens with processed percussion and aforementioned mellow breaks before lush, dreamy pads and Volard’s even dreamier voice enter the mix. Slowly building in energy with the introduction of a four to the floor kick drum, the tension releases with a classic Mr. Fingers-esque bassline taking things to the next level. The true surprise comes two thirds of the way through, though, as a wild acid sax line dissolves the mix in an epic, show stealing breakdown.

Featuring an optimistic and uplifting message, Volard explains "I wrote ‘Shinin’’ as a shoulder to lean on to a friend who was in a dark place. I wanted to let her know that I was there, and to be gentle with herself. It's an ode to growth, and a statement that even in your darkest times, you will heal and you will shine again."

Shinin’ comes after a busy time for Volard that’s seen her hone her skills on the live stage, playing festivals like Meadow, Big Sound, WOMAD, Leaps & Bounds and Brunswick Music Festival as well as support slots for celebrated artists like The Bamboos, The Teskey Brothers and Kyoto Jazz Massive.
