Premiere: Black Summer shows softer side on chill new single Sadness ft. Chloe Campbell

The DJ/producer continues to evolve at the ripe old age of 14.

After blowing up on triple j Unearthed at the crazy young age of 11 years old, Rhys Thoms AKA Black Summer has spent the past couple of years honing his craft to the point where his music is truly on another level. After last year's Young Like Me racked up streams in the millions, he kicks off 2018 in absolute style with a chill new banger in Sadness featuring Bahamian vocalist Chloe Campbell. The emotive new single flourishes in its restraint, providing something that's chill but still packing plenty of punch, both sonically and thematically: "Sadness is a track that I wanted to give a chilled but also energetic vibe to. It’s about two people not quite connecting - one of them is in love with the drama of the relationship, but they can’t figure out how to make it work. I wanted to relay this feeling in the track so I used these dark muted synths…we recorded Chloe’s vocals in LA and then I took her vocals and further built the track around them. She brought this amazing life to the track with her awesome adlibs and harmonies."

The scary thing is the kid hasn't even turned 15 yet, and with some live shows on the cards following on from a steady number of DJ sets over the past 12-18 months, we're just on the tip of the iceberg of a long and promising career: "I still can’t believe that I’m doing what I’m doing now - it is literally a dream come true. I’m so grateful for the opportunity triple j gave me to get my music out there, they really gave me the confidence to do what I love! Over the years I have learnt so much about music theory and the industry… I love anything to do with computers, from programming video games to making my own music. I love to travel and see new parts of the world and performing live is one of my favourite things to do!"

Check out the single below ahead of its official March 23 release (pre-order HERE), and catch him live at The World Bar on Wednesday 25 April.
