Text Message Interview: Janet Planet of Confidence Man

With their debut album a few weeks away, Janet Planet gets you in the mood for groove.

I feel pretty... confident... saying that Confidence Man are the most fun band in Australia at the present minute. Perhaps it's because they tick a lot of boxes for me (if mid-2000s era DFA and Modular Records fucked and had a baby Confidence Man would be the devil spawn that danced it's way out from that most unholy of unions), but mostly because I finally got to see them live recently and it was grrrrrrrrreat. Super dirty, indie/dance/disco/electro vibes that were pretty much relentless from start to finish, combined with a drummer/keyboard-programmer combo that while all dressed in black almost stole the show at points and a fun atmosphere that proves you don't have to take electronic music so seriously all the time... Well it was a winner.

And so it will be interesting to see how well that incredible live atmosphere translates to their debut album, Confident Music For Confident People, when it's released on April 13 ahead of a huge run of dates with Groovin The Moo along with a few sideshows to boot. I was fortunate enough to have a quick chat recently with Janet Planet, who together with Sugar Bones makes up the highly engaging duo that is the face of Confidence Man. During said conversation we spoke about the album a little and some highlights from a huge 2017, but mostly just how much of a rig Bones is.

So check out the dope video for Don't You Know I'm In A Band, have a read, and scope those dates right down below - they're simply not to be missed live.
