Rezz gets heavy on her rendition of Gesaffelstein's Hellifornia

The god of techno meets his match in Deadmau5's favourite techno queen - Rezz.

Gesaffelstein's Hellifornia is a classic, there's no denying that. The aching bass and whiny synth melody are extremely left-field from someone who dominates in hard, French techno (who can forget his other classic - the dark and twisted Pursuit), but it just works on a level that I think has been left untouched for years now. I think that because of this, it's been left largely untouched when it comes to remixes (except for the occasional bass-boosted remix or The Next Episode mashup - Exhibit A.), that being said, it definitely isn't impossible, a fact confirmed by Mau5trap techno queen Rezz. Although she probably is still classed under 'emerging' when it comes to the Australian market, Rezz has been absolutely dominating the US techno scene in recent months, most recently releasing her brain-twisting EP The Silence Is Deafining, which saw her toy with heavy techno beats and dark melodies sounding as if it was from the French don himself. Anyway, her remix of Hellifornia is extremely deep and dirty - the whiny, high-pitched synth from the original has been distorted and lowered, and the original's clean bass has also been heavily warped, creating a dark, rippling effect within each stab. The industrial touch that emerges amongst the frenzy really creates some additional depth to an otherwise pretty simple revision, transporting us to a dark, strobe-filled warehouse party with every bar.
