Listen: easyFun - easyMix
PC Music’s quiet achiever delivers chromatic pop reinterpretations of top 40 chart juggernauts.
The well-documented skepticism about PC Music has always seemed a little misplaced. People repeatedly wonder out loud if the record label is taking the piss with their hyper-commercialist, post-internet aesthetic and perpetually chipmunked worldview. But a collective can’t write that many killer melodies and hooks and still be dismissed as “fucking around”.
easyFun’s a perfect case in point. He’s not as well known as affiliates such as Hannah Diamond and A.G. Cook, but his Deep Trouble EP released earlier this year proved he's got the pop writing chops to become a star player. He continues this trend (and PC music’s MO of refreshingly brief mixes) with easyMix. You’re going to want to hear the opening remix of Ariana Grande’s 2014 hit Break Free. It’s a maximalist, kaleidoscopic reinterpretation that pulls forwards the melodies and hooks to place them front and centre; where they belong.
