They’re back and dreamier than ever with new single and music video + announce ninth studio album

Nearly four years since their last album, Digital Shades Vol. II, iconic French act M83 announce their ninth full-length album in fine style with the entrancing new single & video combo, Oceans Niagara.

An expansive cut of krautrock and shoegaze influenced electronic indie goodness, Oceans Niagara gains momentum with each new phrase, adding a myriad of swirling synths over it’s hypnotic guitar lines and driving rhythm section. Notably absent are lyrics for the first two minutes of the track, before Anthony Gonzalez delivers two words - “Beyond Adventure” - the only two words we’ll hear on the track, adding to the mysterious and, well, adventurous vibe.

With new album Fantasy set for a March 17 release, Gonzalez explains that the album’s direction was immediately clear: “I wanted this record to be very impactful live," he says. "The idea was to come back with something closer to the energy of [third studio album] Before The Dawn Heals Us. The combination of guitars and synths is always in my music, but it’s maybe more present on this new record than on the previous ones."

Check out the trippy video for Oceans Niagara, directed by long-time M83 collaborator and filmmaker (Knife + Heart, You And The Night), Anthony’s brother Yann Gonzalez.

M83’s new album Fantasy is out March 17 via Virgin Music Australia
