Perth's Tired Lion tackle mental health issues on new single/video, Agoraphobia

It's official: 2016 is The Year of the Lion.

Tired Lion have smashed it repeatedly throughout 2016; from their epic single Not My Friends, which has been getting huge love on triple j, to playing in front of thousands at Glastonbury and Splendour In The Grass festivals - the Perth quartet have again delivered the goods with their new single, Agoraphobia. Written about the panic condition that prevents people from venturing into open or public spaces, Agoraphobia is an undeniable grunge anthem, filled with soaring riffs and trademark Tired Lion hooks.

Frontwoman Sophie Hopes spoke of her own battle with agoraphobia and how she hopes the single might help other people struggling with mental illness: “I remember when I was going through it I really thought there was something wrong with me and you really try and be something that you’re not at the time and the only way to fix the problem is to go, 'Okay cool, so that’s a thing that I’ve got and I just need to work with it in my own way' and realise how to tackle it rather than just giving up on yourself.” The video for Agoraphobia highlights the struggles of the condition, as the band find themselves surrounded by a frenzied crowd and pillow fights while they attempt to play inside a living room.

You can catch Tired Lion playing a stack of Australian shows through spring and summer, starting later this month when they support Violent Soho for their national tour alongside Tassie rockers Luca Brasi and Cali punks The Bronx.
