Meet your new favourite Kiwi artist, Fazerdaze

Meet your new favourite Kiwi artist, Fazerdaze

In the country soon supporting Explosions In The Sky and doing some sideshows.

Amelia Murray, AKA Fazerdaze arrives in Australia this week riding a wave of hype including praise from the likes of NME and playing with Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Connon Mockasin. In town supporting Explosions In The Sky and playing a couple of her own shows, she just released her latest single, Lucky Girl (ahead of her debut album, Morningside), and we swung her a few questions to get the uninitiated out there up to speed.

You recently played Laneway NZ...how nervous were you?

Pretty nervous. It's quite a strange experience being on this gigantic stage in front of a sea of faces.

Can you tell us about your latest single, Lucky Girl?

I think I wrote this song as a desperate attempt to not self-sabotage. I sometimes find that when things are going well for me (like they are now) I freak out and want to destroy it all.

You wrote and recorded Lucky Girl in your bedroom. Did you also play all the instruments?

I did. The drums are samples however, which I programmed myself. The distortion you hear in the chorus is the sound of my microphone breaking. I was initially really bummed about that but then I listened back and thought it was really cool!

What do you do outside of music?

I used to play football but I had to leave my team because of touring. But I swim, do yoga, and play tennis with my friends - stuff like that. I also work but it is music related so maybe that doesn't count.

You’re heading back to Aus' this month for two FD shows plus supports with Explosions In The Sky. Is there anything you’d like to do in Australia that perhaps you missed out on during your last visit?

Thanks - we're so excited to be playing with EITS. Um yes! If we get time, I really want to go to an aquarium! I love aquariums.

What can we expect from the debut album?

It's called Morningside and it's a collage of happy/sad bedroom recordings.

Thanks!

Thanks for having me :^)
