Jack River's stripped-back take on Fault Line is a touching masterpiece

Catch her on tour this March.

One of 2017's late highlights came from New South Wales' Jack River, who delivered with a beautiful, WA-shot video for her stand-out single Fault Line, which arrived with news of a national tour in early 2018. Now she's back, continuing to cement her position as one Australia's songwriting heavyweights with a stripped-back, 'Gear 1' version of the single that'll have you eagerly awaiting her Australian tour this March. The Gear 1 version of Fault Line strips the single back to its more raw and personal moments, with River's emotive vocals proving only more moving when they're isolated with just a haunting piano melody on the backing.

It's a performance similar in tone to The XX's Romy Madley-Croft on the aptly-named I See You highlight Performance, with Jack River's vocals moving even the strongest of listeners with its warm, yet quite harrowing tone. If anything, the Gear 1 version of Fault Line secures Jack River as one of Australia's best vocalists – a vast call for someone so early in her career, but with performances like these, there's little competition.
