Introducing Grace Sanders and her jazz-inspired new single, Impress Me

The Perth-based singer-songwriter's debut is a chilled-out, light-hearted jam that blends jazzy Motown sounds with folk-rock.

Blending influences in jazz and Motown with a light-and-easy, indie-folk sound, Grace Sanders is a new force arriving from Perth's on-point indie scene, a force we can't wait to introduce. She was initially introduced to us as a model for Louise Coghill's breathtaking snaps, but her debut single Impress Me is levels above her competition, impressing with soulful tones that swirl behind the single's playful melodies of guitar and vocals. With her debut single hitting all the right places, we sent Grace a couple of questions to get to know her a little better, perfectly-timed for her shows at Four5Nine (at The Rosemount Hotel) and the J-Shed later this month (dates below).

Tell us about yourself?

I'm a singer-songwriter based in Perth. I write jazz / classic rock / soul / folk style tunes and play shows solo and with my band. About 8 months ago now, I decided to defer uni to pursue music full time and see if I can make that happen so here we are!

What’s the vibe music-wise?

Very multi-influenced. I don't really write into a specific genre or style but I do think all my songs have something of a cohesive feel about them - very melody and lyric based with lots of different sections. I think vibe-wise, I want to write the kind of music you listen to while you're walking or driving alone having a think, or just in the background of a chill dinner with friends.

Can you tell us about your new single, Impress Me?

It's my debut 'officially' to the internet. It's just a fun very jazz / Motown-inspired song I chose to release first because its light hearted and the lyrics have lots of little jokes in them. My producer Charlie and I had a hell of a time getting the feel of the song right, but I think we got there in the end.

What’s the rest of the year have in store?

I'll be releasing more music videos, another single or two, gigging a lot around the place and of course writing a lot of new stuff. Just building a following at the moment so lots in store for online content!

Where can we hear more of your music?

Everything is linked to my FACEBOOK page but I also have music available on YOUTUBE, TRIPLE J UNEARTHED, and BANDCAMP.
