The indie label will be operating out of Sydney, and their first release is a pearler.

When you start up an independent record label you want to kick things off with your best foot forward, and fortunately, in the case of new Sydney-based label Break Even Recordings (an imprint of Inertia Music), they're off to a flyer with Nice Biscuit. The label is focused on signing and showcasing diverse/progressive new acts from a variety of genres with a DIY ethos, and Nice Biscuit certainly fit the bill. The female-fronted six-piece have played Gizzfest, won triple j Unearthed's BIGSOUND comp and shared the stage with the likes of Jen Cloher and The Creases.
And their first release on Break Even - Captain - is a killer first cut; a driving slice of psych-pop with a little bit of Krautrock sprinkled over the top with more finesse than Saltbae could ever dream of, it also comes with an inspiring message: "Captain is loosely based on self-empowerment and taking control of yourself. It's one of our more heavier tracks. Ben wrote the song on guitar and we all built it from there. The song was recorded on top of a hill in rural Ipswich (South East Queensland) at our friend's recently completed studio. We arrived there late at night, and were met with a muddy, ungraded track up leading up the hill that our van couldn't get up - we tried six times. Eventually, we had to do a big run up and as the van was losing traction, everyone jumped on the side and push it the last 20 metres."
