The Gaslamp Killer denies rape allegations as upcoming Australian tour dates are cancelled

His Oz tour agent The Operatives announced the tour cancellation this morning.

Last Friday we reported that LA-based producer/DJ The Gaslamp Killer had been accused of rape on Twitter in a post by a woman who goes under the Twitter handle @chelseaelaynne. In the post which was a screenshot of the full story, she said "i've been silently suffering over this for many years. the gaslamp killer drugged and raped my best friend and myself 4 years ago." We won't post it again, but you can check the full story and the ensuing tweets from Chelsea HERE.

The Gaslamp Killer, whose real name is William Benjamin Bensussen, was scheduled to perform at Low End Theory (a club night performs at regularly) that evening with some upcoming festival dates scheduled including Breakfest in Perth, and Let Them Eat Cake in Melbourne on New Year's Day. That Low End Theory show ended up being cancelled, and over the weekend Bensussen issued the following statement, also via Twitter:

Since that Tweet, both Low End Theory and Brainfeeder (the record label he was associated with although hadn't release music with for a few years) released their own statements, distancing themselves from Bensussen.

Meanwhile, Brainfeeder said Bensussen hasn’t been signed to the label in over 5 years, but denied any knowledge the alleged incident:

“The allegations against the Gaslamp Killer come as a complete shock. Brainfeeder has always been a safe, inclusive space for artists of all types and we do not condone assault in any shape or form. We did not have any knowledge of the alleged incidents, and condemn any such actions across the board.

And this morning The Operatives, the Australia touring agent for The Gaslamp Killer, officially released a statement saying that cancelling his upcoming tour dates is "currently the only option":

We'll keep you updated when/if anymore information comes to light.

WA Premier Mark McGowan: "I think [pill testing] could actually risk lives."

While WA has largely dodged festival deaths, the heat on our politicians to introduce pill testing is still on.
