CinePile: The Revenant trailer looks epic

Iñárritu, Lubezki, DiCaprio, Hardy.

A few months ago, the Internet granted us a sneak peak into the latest filmic masterpiece from Alejandro Iñárritu, The Revenant. Mexican national Iñárritu has directed a host of highly acclaimed features including Birdman (for which he recently won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay), Babel and 21 Grams.

With that in mind, it’s fair to say when a trailer drops with his initials on it, we’re expecting something fairly impressive. Not only that, world-class cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (Tree Of Life, Gravity, Birdman) is again working alongside him with the film starring two of the biggest actors on the planet right now, Leonardo Di Caprio and Tom Hardy. This is well and truly a screen dream team.

The story is all about revenge and resilience, with Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) a famous trapper being left for dead by his own troupe in the harsh American wilderness after being attacked by a bear. Withstanding all odds, Glass stays alive, tackling what looks to be a real cold winter, seeking revenge against those he thought were his friends.

It’s an epic trailer, filled with stirring tribal drumbeats, dramatic vision of Leo on his comeback trail and a host of horses and gunpowder. If this doesn’t get you just a little bit excited to mow into a choc-top, then I guess movies just aren’t your go.
