The enigmatic, New York-based electronic musician is making dark and abrasive electronica that'll have you knocked off your feet.

I've been searching for a The Knife replacement ever since they called a hiatus back in 2014, and although Fever Ray, one half of the Swedish duo, dropped an incredible album last year, it didn't quite have the same experimental abrasiveness to it. In comes New York musician elegant slims, whose debut track Not Human perfectly fulfils the dark and heavy electro sound of The Knife, while keeping things unique and interesting by incorporating her own sounds and flavours into the mix. It's a relentless three-minute affair, with thick synth and bass coming in almost immediately before being joined by her own vocals, which sort-of cut through the heaviness in a haunting, goosebump-inducing way before the stomping clangs of the instrumental returns in full force. The enigmatic producer is doing something remarkably cool right now – which is why we sent her a couple of Q's to get to know her and her dark and heavy debut single a little better. Can you tell us about your new single, Not Human?
This song is about the darkness we know exists in the world. It conveys the process by which a human becomes non-human or sells their soul, so to speak. There is a lot of that going on right now. The space where madness and animal instincts take over, either for pleasure or for power. It's a fascinating layered existence to be human and then to unravel. this is the tightrope song of that dance.
Any shows coming up?
Not yet.
What’s the rest of the year have in store?
Art and music. Musings and wanderings.
Where can we hear more of your music?
A new single will be released in the next few months. Hold on to your hat.
