Text Message Interview: Dugong Jr. x Manila Killa

With Manila Killa currently on an Australian tour with LDRU, we got Australia's Moving Castle flag flyer Dugong Jr. to send him a couple of texts.

Becoming a staple in the sets of many, over the past few years Washington-via-Manila producer Manila Killa has treated us to remix after remix, adding his own, melodic touch to tunes from Caribou, Carmada, London Grammar, Flume and more. At the start of this year, years of remixing built up to his biggest move to date – his debut original. With All That’s Left, Manila Killa jumped to a completely different level, combining the vocal melodies of Joni Fatora with a production that could only be described as enchanting. This was repeated again last month with Youth, which saw him team up with Californian vocalist Satica for a slightly more upbeat number that appears to be the song of the US summer. Somehow finding time between his solo productions, playing as half of the Hotel Garuda team (the other being Candle Weather, another Asia-born producer) and flying the Moving Castle flag as one of the collective’s founders, Manila has jetted off to Australia for a mammoth tour including dates supporting L D R U. To celebrate, we thought we would get Australia’s own Moving Castle flag bearer Dugong Jr. to interview the man himself, and what better way to do it than via the realms of text message.
