Melbourne duo SAATSUMA are an electronic outfit we've had the pleasure of covering before, being first introduced to them with their glitchy, oozing single Floating over a year ago now. Since then, the duo have gone on to diversify their sound and become one of Australia's most intriguing artists, most recently teasing their forthcoming debut record with another charmer of a single, Stay. Today the duo release their second piece of music in the past fortnight, taking on NUSSY's synth-pop banger Hard As Diamonds for a wild, crescendoing remix which see SAATSUMA break away from their typically-chilled sound in favour of a heavier, more club-ready house edge. The remix highlights the single's tingling feel, creating a building atmosphere with thick layers of synth work and vocal samples from the original which SAATSUMA masterfully manipulate to give the track an almost dark edge, before ending with a climactic, clubby bang. The remix arrives off the back of some bad news from the NUSSY camp, with the singer-songwriter having to keep quiet (literally) after recently having vocal surgery, putting a fair spanner in the works when it comes to the big year that NUSSY had planned. However, you can catch SAATSUMA live this weekend as they launch their new single Stay, including a special listening party of their new record before release at the Brunswick show on July 9th AND NUSSY doing a couple of DJ sets around town, including a very special one at Sydney's World Bar - presented by yours truly (more details soon!).
