Meet JEFFE in her mesmerising debut, Whoever You Love, I’m Cool

This Sydney artist's debut track will bring you into a trance.

Words by Emilie Carmona.

Say hello to JEFFE. The details of her identity, origins, and story are murky, with her triple j Unearthed profile only listing her home town (Sydney, incase you were wondering). But those minor details become pretty irrelevant when you drift into the deeply personal dreamscape she’s crafted in the impressive debut, Whoever You Love, I’m Cool. It’s captured the love of triple j big guns Richard Kingsmill and Dom Alessio, who’ve just showcased the track on their respective shows, 2017 and Home and Hosed, alongside their glowing five-star reviews on Unearthed and a casual almost 50K on Spotify in a few days. Not too shabby tbh.

Above wavering strings and dazed horns, JEFFE’s vocals float, delicate and controlled, but full with feeling. She’s spilled to us that she wanted to tell, “what it’s like to put aside your own feelings, to allow the person you love to be happy.” With sparkling piano and a mellow beat it feels like that strange state resting between awake and asleep, and it creates a truly captivating mood. We suggest falling within this track on the ASAP to avoid the inevitable I-told-you-so-itis when JEFFE comes for the crown:
