Exclusive: Busy P talks Justice coming to Australia, and SebastiAn working on album #2
We caught up with the Ed Banger boss whilst at Coachella with Justice.
Like Jesus last Sunday, Ed Banger Records are rising up from the dead in Australia. We're being a little facetious - the French label of Pedro Winter AKA Busy P has been doing just fine in its homeland and elsewhere around the world over the past few years. But after a decreased presence in Australia since the mid-late 2000s electro explosion, it feels like 2017 is the year one of the world's seminal record labels makes their triumphant return down under.
And much of that can definitely be attributed to the resurrection of one of the roster's most popular acts - Justice. Their third LP, Woman, was met with fairly round acclaim late last year, providing an aurally pleasing mix of their breakout debut and its follow up, Audio, Video, Disco. Most exciting though was the unveiling of their massive, brand new live show at Coachella last weekend, the first step in an upcoming world tour that will hopefully see the duo down in Australia at some stage this year.
On the phone to Winter this morning to talk about Ed Banger Records' upcoming compilation release, ED REC 100 (out May 12), we asked him about what 2017 holds for Ed Banger. And he slung us a couple of very juicy nuggets in the form of a potential trip down under for Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, along with the news that another of the label's most-loved acts, SebastiAn, is hard at work on album #2.
Acknowleding that the Ed Banger brand didn't carry the same weight as it used to be down here after Australia "went a bit into the EDM thing", Winter revealed he's excited to get back down here, sooner rather than later:
"We are working on [coming back to Australia], and I can’t wait to be back you know? We are working on it right now with the Justice team. I hope we will soon announce an Australian tour with Justice," he said early on in the piece, before re-iterating at the end: "It’s gonna be a very busy year 2017. And of course there will be the Justice world tour and I hope it will visit Australia as part of it!"
While of course it's not concrete, it's pretty obvious they want to come back, and we hope they've got suitors lining up to make it happen, because the new live show looks and sounds insane:

He also revealed that Ed Banger staple SebastiAn is hard at work on a follow-up on his 2011 debut LP, Total:
"I can tell you, an exclusive, I can tell you that SebastiAn is working on a second album. He's halfway to the end of his new album."
It was an awesome chat, and you can check back on the site soon for the full interview, and in the mean time check out Busy P's new single Genie feat. Mayer Hawthorne:
