Introducing d e n n i s., an exciting new artist with a unique, captivating debut single, Alive

The Gold Coast-based artist seriously impresses with her first official release.

Gold Coast-based singer/songwriter d e n n i s. has just unveiled a stellar debut single with Alive, an alluring slice of indie/electronic pop. Working with producer Jarryd Shuker (Art Of Sleeping), the pair of them have come up with a beguiling mix of dance-influenced electronica, in the mould of artists like BROODS, Austen and Kimbra.

We're predicting a big 2019 for d e n n i s., and according to our little interview with her below, so is she:

Tell us about yourself?

The hardest question of them all… Hi, I am Olivia and I have this project called d e n n i s. and it's kind of a big deal to me. I am 22 and I have been making music seriously for the last five years on the Gold Coast. In that time I have really come to terms with doing things your own way and just trusting the process. In reality I am just a small town girl trying to make it big in the city and I am stoked to be getting the opportunity to do just that.

What are you listening to atm?

Right now I am on the BROODS vibe. I am totally digging their recent releases and am so keen for more new music from them. I definitely need to give a mention to the new E^ST EP, this is my serious jam and I am very thankful to have such fine music to be inspired by.

Production/writing process:

Collaboration is key. I am super all about writing/creating with other likeminded writers and producers. At this point in time I have built this little network of writers and producers that are apart of Alive and all the new music to come in 2019.

Process wise it varies all the time. I may come up with an idea and get together with some other writers and flesh the idea out further. Other times I jump into sessions with producers and we make a beat and write together. I believe collaboration is important; it keeps out creative minds on top of our game and sometimes it may feel as if we have met our rival, but healthy competition is good and it pushes us to want to create further than what we already know.

Can you tell us about your new single, Alive?

Alive is one of the very first tracks that has felt like my very own. This song was written a couple of years ago and producing it this year I got to be look back and reflect and still feel just as connected to it now as I was then. I got to work with a very talented producer (Jarryd Shuker) now turned dear friend of mine and I couldn’t be happier to have released Alive as my debut single.

Alive romanticises how easy it is to get caught up in the wrong type of relationships. Which I think is something easily relatable, in saying that relationships as a topic in general seem to be relatable. But there’s something so hard to fully comprehend about being in love with a relationship when it also makes you wish it never should have began in the first place… and that’s exactly what I was feeling when I wrote Alive. Fingers crossed that’s what we all thought.

Any shows coming up?

This year is all about releasing music and stirring a little buzz in the online world. 2019 is all about showcasing d e n n i s. live and full in action. You can definitely expect to be catching a live set come the New Year.

What’s the rest of the year have in store?

The rest of this year is super exciting; I have some secret creative plans in place. I unfortunately can’t share them with you at this current time, but I can assure you it is well worth the wait and you won’t be left waiting too much longer.

Where can we hear more of your music?

There is definitely more music on the way, 2019 is going to be a massive year and believe me when I say you guys better be ready! For now you can continuously keep jumping on your beds to my latest single Alive via Spotify or Soundcloud.
