Learn some French and how to dance in The Gooch Palms' breezy new video, Summertime

Summertime is the summer anthem you didn't realise you needed.

Words by Glenn Symmons.

The Gooch Palms have had a busy year. After dropping tracks such as Busy Bleeding and Marfa Lights so far in 2018, the Newcastle duo have released another new song and an accompanying music video that’ll make you much more cultured than your mates who can’t dance or speak French.

Summertime is a bit of a stripped back tune by Gooch Palm standards. Still, without losing their beloved and individual sound, the two kill it with a jaunt around Melbourne, dancing and doing their thing to a smooth and easy-listening beat. Summertime is a feel good track that's very appropriately named as perfect for kicking back...in the summertime.

For all of those blissfully unaware of how terrible your dance moves are, in this belter of a video, we are finally taught how to dance killer jig. To dance in a way that’ll not only make you smile (at your clear dance skills that you never knew were in your repertoire), but will bring joy to all of those around you. The secret, keep movement to a minimum and never look at your hands.

Next, we learn how the Goochies would sound speaking French. Let us tell you, they sound bloody amazing. When given the language option of either Español, Français and Deutsche, the two go full Plastic Bertrand (if you know, you know) and jump straight into a French rendition, as smoothly as you like.

According to the Palms' themselves, "You’re stretched out on a beach towel spread upon the white sands of Palombaggia Beach, in the South of France. You sip a Mauresque cocktail while watching the Azure waves gently lap the shore. A bead of sweat drips from your temple down your cheek as the warm sun shines down. You hop up, walk to the water’s edge, and slowly walk into the shallow water. It’s the perfect temperature for a hot summer’s day. As the water rises to your knees you plunge yourself into the crystal-clear water and glide, weightless below the waves. Or maybe you’re just listening to THE feel-good hit of this summer, Summertime by The Gooch Palms!"
