Premiere: Sarah Yagki - Just Like Me

Eora/Sydney-based alt-pop artist returns with a bold new single & narrative-driven music video

Ahead of a massive 25 show tour across NSW, QLD and WA, Eora/Sydney-based purveyor of alt-pop Sarah Yagki makes her return with the big & bold sounds of Just Like Me, which alongside its striking music video is premiering on Pilerats today, a day ahead of release.

Opening with mellow guitars and Yagki's ethereal vocals, Just Like Me is a slow burning affair that builds to an epic & intense climax that sees the overblown drums, sweeping electronics with Sarah's impassioned lyrics cutting through the wall of noise.

Speaking on the inspiration behind Just Like Me, Sarah explains "'Just Like Me' recounts the unravelling of the day I watched someone I loved, hurt themselves in a manic episode. I walked into that situation without knowing what was happening, and I watched that person hurt themselves in front of me, whilst blaming me for it. The single is about watching a loved one suffer through their lowest points of mental health, and the impact it has on you as you watch it unfold."

Meanwhile, the video sees Yagki starring alongside dancer Marcya Fugawai and features some hypnotic choreography in a narrative exploring the ups and downs of the character's relationship. Yagki comments "The director and I drew metaphoric representations from my own personal experiences, to echo the distress of watching someone I once knew, try to take their own life away, and bring me down in it."

Give Just Like Me a watch and listen a day ahead of release, and see below for all of Sarah's upcoming tour dates!
