Premiere: EGOISM drop the clip for their latest single, What Are We Doing?

The Sydney dream-pop duo continue to flourish, this time with a new video arriving the week of BIGSOUND.

This year's BIGSOUND Festival is stacked top-to-bottom with high-tier talent, but going into this year's Fortitude Valley festivities – which kicks off tomorrow (!) – there are a few bands that are really sticking out at this year's most anticipated sets. One of them are Sydney dream-pop duo EGOISM, who over the last few months, have seemingly grown to strength to strength as they release a triple-threat of brilliant singles which feel like the future of not just the genre, but of Australian indie as a whole. The most recent of these was What Are We Doing?, a contrasting track which juxtaposed saccharine melodies with sobering vocals on mental health and the complexities of emotions; sun-soaked guitar meeting lyrics on "mental health and how it can affect the people you love."

"This song is literally about making music with each other; but really it’s about letting out all the little worries you keep to yourself, and then taking a deep breath and realising ‘you and I, we don’t know what the fuck that we’re doing with this’," explained the duo's Olive Rush on the single. "It can apply to our entire relationship, and to any relationship between two people really."

Today, however, we premiere the single's official video clip. It's a hazy, sun-backed video which ends up fitting the single's DIY, yet slick sound to a tee; the track's summery guitar visualised through orange sunsets as the duo move from location to location. "We filmed the whole video in one day, sunrise to sunset," says the other half of the duo, Scout Eastment, on the track. "Constantly zipping from one location to the next; changing outfits in the passenger seat of our director's car. Ended up really fitting the theme of the song haha; that ever-present feeling of running out of time while still trying to not take yourself too seriously." Check it out below, and then catch them at BIGSOUND across this week:
