Introducing the incredibly unique new voice of MAY, and her telling new single, Falling

The New York-based Australian artist has our full attention ahead of an EP release.

New York-based, Australian-born singer/songwriter MAY has blown us away with her first official single, Falling - a melancholic and evocative track which showcases a unique voice, it'll stop you in your tracks. She's currently working on her debut EP Phantom, and if the first single is anything to go by we're in for something truly special. "I woke up in the middle of the night and wrote it,” explains MAY of Falling. "He was my first love, I was blinded by it. I’ve never been in love since and it’s the only song I have written that comes from this naive vulnerability."

We sent her a few questions to find out a little more - check it all out below:

Tell us about yourself?

I grew up in Melbourne, Australia and moved to New York a few years ago. Fell in love with the melancholic beauty here and find it extremely aspirational and gritty at the same time. It's the perfect realm in which to make music.

What kinda tunes we talkin’?

Dark, evocative and brooding... Written from the soul and for the soul.

Production/writing process?

I wrote this song years ago and have played it at every live show since, yet never released it. Falling has always been very dear to my heart and when I started working with Patrick Wimberly on the EP it came to life.

Can you tell us more about Falling?

Falling is a song about that kind of naïve and almost angelic first love. I could only ever write one song as pure as this because after your first love, and it's ultimate downfall, you become aware of the devastating pain that may await you on the other side. It can only happen once in your life and it was from here that my writing became darker...

Any shows coming up?

Yes, my next show will be at a beautiful church in Brooklyn (NY) in September, which I'm looking forward to. I have always loved playing in churches, it is such an otherworldly experience.

What’s the rest of the year have in store?

I will be releasing more songs from my EP in the lead up to the full release a little later in the year, and have several shows surrounding this which I will be announcing shortly.

Where can we hear more of your music?

More songs are on their way and I do have some existing singles online, including my last release, Ballerino.
