Robert Pattinson plays for Death Grips
Is the noise rap game ready for RPatz?
Recently our interest level in Twilight 'hunk' Robert Pattinson has gone from zero (maybe negative one) to something at least numbering in positive digits. Here's why (stick around to the end):
He’s Dating FKA Twigs
Unexpectedly, he’s dating (possibly marrying) ultimate future R & Babe FKA Twigs.
Which is highly convenient for rising singer FKA Twigs, whose now getting a fair bit of exposure for her music from Pattinson’s star power. But anyway, respect to Pattinson for this one, and for buying her flowers bigger than her whole body:
He’s Acting in Challenging Films
David Cronenberg was off his game a bit with recent film Cosmopolis but the fact that Pattinson acted in a Cronenberg film, based on a complex post-modern novel by author Don DeLillo, is cred-worthy – it’s good to see Pattinson shooting for projects like this, as well as Australian film The Rover (dir. Animal Kingdom’s David Michod), and Anton Corbijn's next flick, James Dean biopic Life.
He Sings Semi-OK Music
For a few years now Pattinson’s been making semi-listenable music, acoustic-guitar driven stuff in the vein of Bright Eyes, or (at a stretch) Bon Iver. Here's him pouring his heart out into somebody's living room:
Cliffside wedding arrangements are his speciality:
HE’S DOING A TRACK WITH NOISE RAPPERS DEATH GRIPS!
The below photo of Beyonce, Death Grips’ MC Ride and Robert Pattinson, taken back in 2013, was no casual party snap. Turns out Pattinson is tight with the controversial US noise-rappers Death Grips, and has played guitar on their track Birds, off third album Government Plates, according to the liner notes on a recent vinyl version of the album, which came out last week for US Record Store Day. According to Pitchfork, Death Grips’ drummer Zach Hill recorded Pattinson playing on his iPhone, and the band later sampled the recording.
Earlier this year Pattinson told Late Night’s Seth Meyers he’d always dreamt of being a rapper (watch that admission here). While another collaboration with Death Grips is probably a no-go, given the band recently broke up, surely this is his ticket into the game!
Listen to Birds below, and grab the awesome album that is Death Grips' Government Plates via iTunes.
