Eglo Records Australian Tour feat. Fatima & Alexander Nut
The Eglo Records stars bring their classic soul and R & B sounds to our shores.
One of the highlights of my year was seeing London-based singer Fatima singing on the Eglo Records boat party at Dimensions Festival in Croatia; her warm, soulful croon shimmered harder than the Adriatic sea we were floating on. An Erykah Badu for our millennial generation, Fatima’s sung, and written, for some of the most future-forward producers out; a diverse range of artists that encompasses Ras G, to Teebs, Funkineven, Dam Funk, Scratcha DVA, Flako and of course, her work as the in-house vocalist for UK-based label Eglo Records, founded by Alexander Nut and Floating Points.
Although she’s been in the game for years, only a few months ago did she put out a full debut, Yellow Memories, and it was worth the wait: the genre cornerstones of the album are introspective R & B, and soul; but within that framework Fatima moves from bouncy, funky jams to smooth, seductive stuff in an easy breath. Eglo’s Floating Points produced five of the tracks, with Knxwledge and Scoop De Ville also throwing in beats. Download it here; then you’ll be all set to sing along when she pops down under, showcasing her cosmic sounds in the flesh, with Eglo Records’ Alexander Nut in tow. Revered crate-digger Nut, a regular on Rinse FM, is a brilliant DJ, always traversing a classy range of selections from the hip hop / early dubstep / house spectrum. He’s sure to play some really, really, rare gems – check out his Soundcloud for some great mixes he’s done over the past four years.
The tour goes down this December / January, including an already sold-out stint playing New Year’s On The Roof at the Perth Rooftop Cinemas. Tour dates below. While we’re on the Fatima tip, the video she put out for Family (produced by the always-amazing Flako) might be one of the sweetest videos we saw this year:
Here's Fatima doing a cover of 90s R & B girl group SWV's hit ballad Rain. Ughhhhh so amazing:
