W.A. music month well and truly underway, commencing with last night’s 2022 Western Australian Music Awards taking place at the Astor Theatre in Mount Lawley to celebrate the best our local scene had to offer between 2021 and 2022.
With a nice mix of big names, familiar & emerging acts and some new faces amidst the winners, Pilerats fave Siobhan Cotchin took away three awards for Best Vocalist, Best Country Act and Best EP for her debut Highways and Heartbreaks (that we found out all about here). There were also a few dual winners, with Adrian Dzvuke taking out Best Single and Best Pop Act, while Supathick won Best Electronic/Dance and Best Music Video.
Taking out the top gong, the Golden WAMi awarded in recognition of significant contribution to W.A. music was artist manager, event programmer and owner of 360 Logistics, Hayley-Jane Ayers. Hayley has been a mainstay of the W.A. music scene for nearly a decade and has helped countless musicians develop through a range of roles over the years, including the new Sound States Music Mentorship Program & Conference.
See below for the full list of winners!
The awards preceded this weekend’s festivities, with WAMCon, W.A.'s premier music industry conference taking place on November 4 and 5, and WAMFest showcasing some of the states best artists at a range of venues across the city on Saturday.
