Peeling back Command Q’s live show

Peeling back Command Q’s live show

The WA bass fiends are halfway through their Aussie tour.

Following the release of the duo’s debut EP We Are Animals and ourselves premiering opening track, Titan, they punted #2 on Dance and #23 Overall for the iTunes Australia charts. With now both Shaun and Lou (bloke with the moustache) having completely revamped their touring show, and following face-melting’ shows in Sydney, Central Coast and Adelaide in the last 10 days, we thought we’d gain a little more insight into said new show ahead of their hometown show in Perth this Friday 12 August, alongside Bathurst based LOLO BX.

What do you guys mean when you say "More energy - More live - More Emotion"?

We’re saying you won’t be disappointed when you look up at the stage. I mean, it's dance music sure. But, we are gonna be up there smashing drums, singing and getting you involved. This isn’t about finding the best playlist and mixing from song to song. For us this is about creating an experience.

Just how much equipment are you guys using onstage?

We hit each show with vocal processors - which helps us achieve some of the weird vocals in our songs; snare drum and hi hat - my favourite combo. I swear we break 5 or 6 sticks at every show on these. And finally our electronic drums, which look like thick round plates. And don’t worry, we know you want to throw down, so we won’t force you to watch the stage for the whole set - we pick our moments where everyone can dance and be crazy, and then moments where it gets intimate and we bring you into our space.

How good were the first three shows for the tour?

Absolutely incredible. We’ve never had shows like this before. The audiences at shows have always been good but this time it's different. There seems to be some pretty amazing fans hitting our shows in each state and it's super rewarding. The energy and interaction with us is really high and the crowd is really good too. It’s very motivating for us to become better and to give more as well. So the whole experience so far couldn’t have gone better. So thankful to everyone, we’ve been getting quite soppy over the last week with all the feelings haha! Flippin' love you guys out there.

What does the hometown Perth show at Jack Rabbit Slim's mean to you coming up this Friday?

Being the home town show it's definitely the most important. We feel like this is our chance to give back to all the homies and fans who have been there from the beginning. So the guest list is looking pretty huge haha. This is the only show we’ve really sat down and been like, “How can we look after everyone who has looked after us?” So we’ve made some extra arrangements and put in some extra budget and we really hope this one knocks it out of the park.

There’s still a solid bunch of shows remaining for the tour. What do you have planned after this tour in the Command Q world?

Oooft we have so much planned it's crazy. A secret new project for next year, remixes, new songs, collabs... Also going to LA and New York in October. Hopefully give the team a bit of space to breath though as we believe that we’re killing Lou haha!

Parting words before we see you destroy Jack Rabbit Slim's this Friday?

Thank you to everyone who has been supporting us along this journey. We remember you and it means shit tonnes to us. We usually party after the shows as well so come and introduce yourself - we dont bite! And Jack Rabbit Slim's, prepare yourself. This is going to be f@#$ing mental.
