Listen: RAGS - Next EP

Expose yourself to the sounds of jersey club with the LA-based producer's debut EP.

Straight out of LA, songwriter/producer RAGS has been behind the scenes for a while now, writing and co-producing tunes for a wide-variety of acts from various record labels, as well as taking on the sound design and mixing for Skrillex's recently-released animated film, Josho. The man of many talents is now dropping his own stuff, with the producer releasing Next, his four-track debut EP. It kicks off with the intro, Love Story, a bubbly, quick-paced tune that works around distorted vocal cuts and a simple, jersey-infused percussion line. It doesn't take long for the EP to heat up, with the second single I'll Be Up All Night following up the jersey-infused sound from the intro alongside a general feel-good vibe thanks to the up-beat vocal samples and segmented chords. Vibe Check, the third single, flips up the tone on the single, going for a smoother sound with low-pitched synth chords and a tropical-infused percussion line running alongisde vocals from rapper Finess The Great. Ending with the single Pixels, RAGS' Next EP is a pretty impressive look-in to the producer's work if you're unfamiliar with his stuff and although it's probably a bit too alternative to be a commercial hit, it won't surprise me if the EP boosts the producer's reputation within the electronic scene up a fair notch.
