Introducing: Lastlings

Introducing: Lastlings

"Just a couple of kids making music".

Gold Coast-based brother/sister duo Lastlings only started the project a few months ago, but are already making some incredibly lush electronica. In particular latest track Chills has given us exactly that, and prompted us to reach out and find out a little more about Josh and Amy. So take a listen below and find out a bit more about a couple of siblings we get the feeling you'll be hearing plenty more of soon enough:

Tell us a bit about yourselves:

Hello ~ We’re just a couple kids making music.

Amy: I’m 15 and my brother Josh is 21 - it’s a bit of a gap and we have our arguments like any other siblings, but we get along great. We live on the Gold Coast, but live in the hinterlands in the valley so it’s away from the hustle and bustle, it’s nice out here, super chilled super relaxed.

Josh: We’ve always played and loved music, but only started out on this project about 3-4 months ago. We are pretty fresh into it and everyone's been so supportive so we are pretty humbled and overwhelmed by the response so far.

What kinda tunes we talkin’?

Hopefully tunes that make people exhale at the end and go.. “ahh that was nice”. I guess we want our songs to evoke some kind of emotion in our listeners, to take them elsewhere. Somewhere cool, somewhere pleasant. Chills is a bit of an oscillating journey between the ins and outs of love and I suppose its relevant to most. It sucks falling out of love, but it's amazing to fall in love.

Production/writing process:

Josh: Hmm... Every song is a little different. Normally it starts with guitar because it's what I’m most comfortable with and then Amy and I will collaborate on lyrics we’ve written down in notes or in voice memo (so many embarrassing voice memos). Lately I’ve been slowly coming to terms with producing in Ableton it’s still very love/hate, but I love that there’s so many possibilities of sounds you can create.

Amy: After we’ve got something relatively decent down our good friend GOVS does further production for us and he is a wiz! Chills is interesting though because it’s one of our favourites, but one that Josh wrote in one night during the time we were working on our second single, Wavelength.

What do you do outside of Lastlings?

Josh: Well I just graduated from uni doing Biomedical science which was absolute death, so now I’m just working casually and surfing/skating whenever I can.

Amy: Still at school so studying and hanging out with my friends or on Tumblr lol. I’m always listening to or playing music I guess and we do some modelling here and there too.

Any shows coming up?

Yes we do! V-excite V-nervous. It hasn’t been announced yet, but we’ll be debuting our live show at one of the major Australian festivals at the end of the year.

What’s the rest of the year have in store?

Probably practicing our live show, writing and demoing some new stuff and trying to grow as artists. Oh and working on a few exciting collaborations!

Where can we hear more of your music?

SOUNDCLOUD is a good start, and there's also SPOTIFY and/or iTUNES.
