DJ Koze unveils brilliant new compilation, Pampa Vol. 1

Huge tracks from Jamie xx, Gold Panda and Koze himself.

A few days ago one of the true craftsmen of the electronic music world, none other than DJ Koze, released a new compilation album for Pampa Records. Pampa Records is the brainchild of Marcus Fink and after a few listens it’s safe to say Pampa Vol. 1 is definitely a keeper.

Pampa Vol. 1 features 19 tracks over two CDs combining electronic heavyweights like Axel Boman, Gold Panda, Acid Pauli, Mount Kimbie and Jamie xx, as well as a spectacular remix by Koze himself.

The compilation starts off on the right as a Lianne La Havas song is remixexd yet again (she seems to be getting remixed a lot at the moment?). This time round it’s Matthew Herbert who reworks La Havas’ Lost and Found to great success. As mentioned earlier, Koze chooses Roman Flügel’s 9 Years for his featured remix; curating it for a club environment and crafting a truly beautiful slow-burner. I was walking down the street with headphones yesterday and it made my surroundings feel other-worldly at times. Boman is in the same realm, as the Swedish producer lays down moving piano riffs over hi-hats and some subtle, deep bass lines for In the Dust of this Planet. Acid Pauli rounds out a stacked compilation with funky house number Nana. This one will be sure to get even the most stagnant feet moving.

Unsurprisingly, DJ Koze has curated a beautiful compilation of some of the best names in electronic music at the moment. He seems to go from strength to strength in each release. And that, my friends, is very good news for us listeners. Now I just gotta catch him live!
