Crooked Colours cap off a remarkable 18 months with deep new cut, I'll Be There

Their first release post-Vera is a doozy.

Crazy what releasing an excellent debut album will do for a band, huh? There was a point way back before the release of Crooked Colours' debut album Vera that it felt like we might lose the WA trio to the perils of an aggressive and fast-moving music industry. Fortunately for us they stuck with it, and ended up releasing one of last year's better electronic albums, and have since been playing some huge shows on repeat trips around the country, along with breaking into the overseas market.

And in even more pleasing news, only just over a year on from Vera, they're already looking ahead to new music with the release of I'll Be There, the first cut from their early-2019-due follow-up album. Very much in their signature style, there's an obvious evolution going on here sonically as well, with some tribal chanting, somehow even more delicate percussion flourishes and warm, relentless synths throughout. Frontman Phil Slabber says of the track, "The first release for an album is always difficult, but we felt that I’ll Be There is the perfect departure, whilst also shining light on what to expect for our next record. We were heavily influenced by spending 18 months on the road since releasing Vera and got a lot of insight into what was connecting from a live perspective. With this single we feel that we have the right balance between a track that's just as enjoyable through a set of headphones as it is dancing along at one of our live shows or festivals."

They're playing some select east coast shows later this month before jetting back overseas, then returning back to Australia for Castaway Festival and Corona Sunsets in Wollongong on December 1 - check all the Oz dates down the bottom.
